TubePrompt — Privacy Policy

This page is the privacy policy for the TubePrompt Chrome extension. Host it on GitHub Pages or any static host and use the resulting HTTPS URL in the Chrome Web Store Privacy practices section.

Private repository: The extension source can stay in a private GitHub repo. The policy page itself must still be reachable at a public HTTPS URL without signing in—Chrome Web Store reviewers and users need to read it. Typical options: GitHub Pages (if your plan allows Pages for that private repo), a small public “docs” repo that only contains this policy, or any other public static host.

Overview

TubePrompt is a Chrome extension that helps you build prompts from YouTube transcripts and send or copy the result to ChatGPT or Gemini.

Data we process

• Settings you choose stored in chrome.storage.local:
  • Prompt template
  • Which overlay buttons are shown
  • Popup theme preference
• Current page context on supported sites so the extension can run (for example, the YouTube watch page).
• Transcript and related page content used only to build the prompt while you use the extension.

What we do not collect

• We do not run our own analytics backend.
• We do not sell personal data.
• We do not require you to sign in to TubePrompt.

Where data is stored

• Extension settings stay on your device in chrome.storage.local.
• Prompt and transcript text are handled in the browser as part of normal extension actions.

Third-party services

TubePrompt may open:

• https://chatgpt.com
• https://gemini.google.com

If you use those actions, content you copy or paste is handled by those services under their privacy policies.

Permissions

TubePrompt requests only what it needs to work:

• storage
• scripting
• Host access to https://www.youtube.com/*

Data retention and control

• Settings remain until you change them or uninstall the extension.
• Uninstalling the extension removes extension-managed local data from your browser.
